Starting a small business (or even continuing to run one) can be an intimidating experience. Every entrepreneur goes through fear based thoughts, but it's important not to let these fears get in the way of your success. That's why we're sharing our tips on facing your small business fears.
1. Write Down Your Fears
First it's important to really get a clear idea of what exactly your fears are. Once these are laid out it will be much easier to confront them, so take the time for yourself to think deeply and write down all of your thoughts. Whether its fear of finances, confidence issues, not knowing where to start or anything else it can always be sorted out and it's important you believe that.
2. Create a Plan
Once you have identified your fears it is time to come up with a plan on how you will conquer them. Again, writing down your plans and setting them out in a concrete way will be extremely helpful.
3. Join a Community
Surrounding yourself with a happy and supportive community of other small business owners can be of great help. Knowing that you are not alone, sharing your experiences, reading words of encouragement or hearing new ideas can make everything seem not as scary as it once was. Start by finding an online community through Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest, or even look for local groups that may be available to you.
4. Stop Comparing
Comparing yourself to other successful business owners can be really damaging. Of course, it's okay to gain inspiration from others, but ensure you aren't comparing yourself in a negative way. Everyone will have their own way of doing things and their own business journey, so it's okay if yours looks different from everyone else's. We will all have our own struggles, and although it may not seem like it, everyone is having the same thoughts you are. Stop comparing and just do you!
5. Never Stop Learning
The easiest way to feel more prepared and like you are moving forward is to be continually educating yourself. There is a whole world out there of business educations books, blogs, podcasts, tutorials and so much more. We will never know everything, but that just means there is no reason you shouldn't be learning something new every day.
6. Be Your Own Cheerleader
No one ever said it was going to be easy, in fact owning a small business can be incredibly difficult and perhaps the most difficult thing you have ever done. This just means that there is no room for negative self talk, self doubt or being hard on yourself. Things will be much easier if you become your own cheerleader, remain positive and simply see your mistakes as lessons learned.
A fun way of keeping yourself motivated is practising positive affirmations. By repeating affirmations or having them displayed in your workplace can give you the little happy boost you may need when things get though.
