It's true what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. But have you ever stopped to think about what words your photos are saying? Telling stories is a huge aspect of photography, no matter what your subjects are. From wedding photographers, family photographers, commercial photographers or travel everyone is sharing a story through the images they take. However, there are things you can do to strengthen the stories in your photos.
1. Take Candid Images
Candid and lifestyle images convey a story much easier than a posed photo can. Through unexpected moments, genuine reactions and a natural feel we are able to personally connect with these photos which help us identify with the story. 
2. Capture Emotion
It's important to capture emotion in your images whether its happiness, excitement, or sadness. Whatever it is that your subject is feeling it's essential you tell it in a raw and real way. 
3. Shoot the Details
Shooting the small details is a perfect way to help tell a story. Whether you're shooting an in-home session, event or portrait session there are always small details that are important to your subject and will help portray who they really are. 
4. Use Motion
Capturing motion, especially motion blur, can be a great way to convey a story. It lets the viewer immerse themselves in the photo and really feel what was going on. 
5. Create Sequences
Shooting in sequences can be the easiest way to share a story. Shooting an event, whether as simple as getting ready for the first day of school to a wedding, capturing it from the very beginning to the end and then presenting all of the images as a whole brings together the whole story. 
6. Be Original
Photography means that you can tell stories your way and through what you see and how you feel. Be original in the images you take and experiment with different angles, light and shooting styles.
7. Follow Your Instincts
As a photographer and artist, you have meaningful instincts that will guide you on how and when you take your images. Listen to this instinct and don't be afraid for a shot not to work out. The more you go with the flow and trust yourself you are sure to come up with some beautiful and compelling images.
